Senior Saturday 2023 - 2024
Senior Tennis takes place on Saturdays over the summer (see calendar). Our format is designed to retain our social doubles play, whilst still providing competitive singles play to those members that want it.
Bookings for singles are essential. The first 16 men or ladies to register by 5pm on Friday prior are in. Text Karen on 027 660 4411. Game start times will be texted back on Friday night for either a 10.00am or 11.15am start time. Singles are best of three sets (3rd set 10 point super tiebreaker). Mixed singles - you will be paired with someone (male or female and of any age) close to your own ability.
As the second round of singles is completed (around 1pm), a round of social doubles will be played for members who did not play singles, and then singles players can join in the doubles afterwards. You do not need to register in advance for the doubles - just turn up.
Queenstown Tennis Club supplies new tennis balls each week.
Saturday Mixed Tennis
On Saturday afternoons we have social mixed tennis from 1pm onwards for all members. These are more casual mix-in sessions. You can come at any time from 1pm onwards. Depending on numbers we may play full matches, or single sets, doubles and/or singles.
Senior Social Saturdays (Fast Four)
From time to time we have a special Senior Social Saturday where everybody mixes in together and we often do a dress up or have a special format, followed by a BBQ. It's a lot of fun . We often use the new Fast Four format of tennis which was first developed in Australia and which has been compared to 20/20 cricket, as it promotes fast, tight games. Basically it works like this:-
There is no date set yet for the next Fast Four Saturday.

We often use the new Fast Four format of tennis which was first developed in Australia and which has been compared to 20/20 cricket, as it promotes fast, tight games. Basically it works like this:-
- each match best of 3 sets
- each set is played to 4 games (eg. 4-1, 4-3)
- if a set gets to 3-3 there is a fast tiebreaker to only 5 points. First team to win 5 points with no advantage (eg. 5-2, 5-4) wins the game and therefore the set 4-3.
- if a match goes to a third set, we just play another fast tie-breaker to 5 points as above. Winner of that takes the match.
- no advantage games. If a game goes to deuce, the next point wins the game. The receiving team can choose which of them receives the serve.
- no lets. If a service hits the net and lands in, either receiver can play it and the point continues.
There is no date set yet for the next Fast Four Saturday.
