Ladder Controller: Ann Boanas - 4421882 - kids4tennis@yahoo.co.nz

Setting of Ladders:

  1. The Ladder Controller, Committee or Coaches will set the ladder based on recent regional and local competition results.
  2. All players on the ladder must be members of the Queenstown Tennis Club.
  3. Any child who wishes to be on the ladder must first contact the Ladder Controller and may then lodge an open challenge, providing they are already a member of the Queenstown Tennis Club.

Publication of the Ladder:

The ladders will be displayed at the Queenstown Tennis Club in the Queenstown Gardens. The ladders will also be displayed on the Queenstown Tennis Club website www.queenstowntennisclub.co.nz and Lan & Mark's Queenstown Tennis website www.queenstowntennis.com but only the name and rank will appear.

The Ladder's Objective:

The purpose of the Queenstown Junior Tennis Ladder is to encourage match play among players and to provide guidelines for the selection of teams and squad coaching. A selection panel will select players for representative fixtures. The selectors will take into account a player's ladder placing, attitude and availability when making selections for any given fixture.

  1. The 2007 ladder has been based on results from recent regional competitions, the local Thursday competition and advice from coaches.

  1. All tournament results (eg. Southland Champs, Otago Champs, Karen Mitchell Cup, Queenstown Prince Junior Open) where a Queenstown player has played another Queenstown player on the same ladder counts as an open challenge and will affect the ladder placings. The onus is on the players to let the ladder controller know the result!

  1. If a player believes any tournament result is an unfair reflection of their ability and and ladder placing, then it is up to that player to make a regular challenge in the usual way.

  1. Any player wishing to have their name added to the ladder must contact the ladder controller. They will be placed at the bottom of the ladder but may lodge one open challenge to improve their position.

  1. All matches played within the Thursday competition will be considered as an automatic challenge. Again it is up to the players to let the ladder controller know the result!

Challenge Rules

  1. All challenges must enter the challenge with the ladder controller and have the challenge confirmed. The challenger must then notify the challenged player as soon as possible and arrange to play within 7 days of the challenge being lodged. The challenger must notify the ladder controller of the result of the challenge.

  1. Players in the top 10 positions on each ladder may challenge the player one place above them. Players in positions 11 and below may challenge up to three places above them but not below number 10.

  1. No player may lodge a challenge with the same player within 7 days of the date of the previous match.

  1. No player will be required to play more than one arranged challenge in a 7 day period.

  1. If the challenged player refuses to play or fails to accept a challenge within 7 days, the result will be the same as if he/she had lost. In the case of sickness, injury or absence from the area please contact the ladder controller.

  1. If a player cannot commit to complete the match (ie. If a player has to go for some reason) the result will be the same as if he/she had lost. Please take your other commitments into consideration when arranging and accepting challenges. Ideally allow atleast 2 hours for matches.

  1. All non-tournament challenges consist of two sets and a super tie-breaker if required.

  1. Challenger to provide two first grade tennis balls.

  1. Consistent with NZ Junior Tennis policy, players are encouraged to do their own umpiring. Parents are requested to remain at a distance from the court. If there has been a problem and it has not been able to be resolved by an impartial referee then the player/s should contact the ladder controller and may need to replay the match with a referee present.

Disputes: Any dispute will be decided by the ladder controller and/or the junior tennis committee whose decision will be final.

Players new to the area: Firstly they must join as a member of the Queenstown Tennis Club and then they may have one open challenge. A second open challenge may be granted at the discretion of the ladder controller.
