Louise Oxnevad

Hi, I'm Louise Oxnevad

I've been playing tennis since I was 9 years old. My Mum, Felicity, is a very keen tennis player and used to watch her play. I wanted to play too so she started hitting with me. I started the tennis Academy with Lan when I was 11. The Tennis Academy gave me the opportunities to play and be coached by Lan in and after school time, so I was able to have more coaching and training with Lan.

I am so fortunate to be learning from Lan. I train with him three hours a day, every day of the week, weather permitting, and he has taught me so much about every aspect of the game. In recent months I have been making real progress with my first and second serves, and also with my forehand. My serve is now becoming a real weapon for me, and as I'm a left-hander, the sliced serve out wide is particularly useful.

Overall, my favourite player is Kim Clijsters, but I really admire Rafael Nadal's intensity on court and Rofer Federer's calmness and composure.

Locally, I have played as number 1 lady in the Southern Teams Quadrangular in the triumphant Southern Lakes team. I won the Queenstown Open singles and doubles in 2009 and the doubles again in 2010. I won the 16u singles in the Canterbury Champs in April 2009.

I've played the NZ Nationals in many junior age groups and have reached the doubles semi-finals twice, and been a singles quarter-finalist twice as well. I was a member of the winning Southern Team at the NZ16u National Championships in January 2010. In December 2010 I won the Slazenger NZ Junior Championships 18u Doubles and was runner-up in the Singles.

I have played in several ITF junior tournaments. My best results have been in the Doubles. I was a semi-finalist in Auckland in September 2010 and a quarter-finalist in Auckland again in February 2011. I was a semi-finalist at the Wellington tournament in February 2011.

Over the next 12 months I intend to compete in more ITF junior tournaments, especially grades 1 & 2, and achieve at least a Top 100 ranking. Then I aim to qualify for the junior Grand Slam events. In 2012 my goal is to get a full scholarship to play university tennis in the USA and then to go on and compete on the WTA professional tennis tour.
