Tennis Academy » Harry James
Hi, I'm Harry James
I started playing tennis when I was 8 years old and I've never stopped since. Lan and Mark have helped develop my tennis immensely over the years, not only technically but mentally and physically too. I have played all NZ junior age groups national championships, and also the Australian 12s and 14s nationals. I have also represented NZ internationally in China and Australia. Thanks to Lan's international contacts I've had the opportunity to travel overseas to gain experience of international tournaments. My biggest tournament was the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida.
In 2010 I lived in Australia for five months, training and playing tournaments during the winter season. Thanks to Lan this experience not only helped to develop my game but also my development as a person and taught me how to take on more responsibility.
Along the way the Queenstown Tennis Club committee and members, the Bruce Grant Trust and the Skeggs Foundation have been incredibly supportive towards my development financially. Without their support and that of my parents it wouldn't have been possible to enjoy these experiences. But having Lan as a coach and mentor has opened up a world of possibilities that would otherwise be virtually impossible to achieve in such a small and isolated tennis nation as NZ.
My favourite shot is the off forehand and my favourite player is Andre Agassi. My ultimate ambition in tennis would be to win Wimbledon.
